Two thirds of UK employers don't offer perks and benefits

Almost two thirds (65.6%) of employers don't offer workplace perks and benefits to their staff, according to research by CV-Library.

Benefits ranging from flexible working to unlimited holiday can go a long way towards making your workers feel valued, keeping them motivated, and attracting new talent. In fact, 84.9% of employees believe that perks are important at work, the online job site said.

The survey of 1,200 UK professionals identified the most sought-after workplace perks and benefits:

  1. Flexible working - 55.8%
  2. Staff discount - 38.7%
  3. Free food - 25%
  4. Birthdays off - 22%
  5. Unlimited holiday - 18.1%
  6. Company car - 16.3%
  7. Mental health days - 14.4%
  8. Social events - 13.3%
  9. Smartphones or tablets - 13%
  10. Free exercise classes - 11.8%

Among those who already enjoy perks and benefits at work, the top offerings are:

  1. Staff discount - 57.8%
  2. Flexible working - 42.2%
  3. Free food - 25.8%
  4. Social events - 25.3%
  5. Company phones and/or devices - 22.7%

Commenting on the findings, Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library, said: "It's an alarming statistic to find that nearly two thirds of UK employers aren't offering workplace perks to their employees. These benefits are excellent tools for rewarding, motivating and encouraging staff to reach their full potential and achieve positive results.

"With the current labour market being in a tricky position and fewer candidates actively looking for work, attracting fresh talent into your roles has certainly gotten harder. But, offering workplace perks is excellent for appealing to candidates and is a sure-fire way for a company to stand out."
